Cityhood FAQs

Additional Information

Coming Soon, More info on the Brookhaven immediate TAD TAX.  The current boundary or the amount of the TAD tax will not be known until after annexation.  In addition, if the neighborhood is quickly annexed, then existing Dekalb County TSPLOST and Parks Funds allocated for current projects would be forfeited for the services transferred to a City.

More Cityhood Considerations include the following:

Police and Crime Prevention.

Neighborhood Parks and Trails.

Woodland Hills Neighborhood Projects

Woodland Hills federal recognition as a National Historic Register District

This is a federal recognition program, not a local historic district restricting permitting.  It will be leveraged for grant opportunities and federally funded projects such as the MARTA expansion.  Woodland Hills passed the eligibility hurdle in January 2022.  The next step is to complete the federal application and finalize the boundaries.

Entrance Signs: New Woodland Hills Neighborhood Signs at more entry points

The Woodland Hills sign and post style is relatively easily replicated.  Permitting and installation wouldn't be difficult unless a different style is chosen and several others have been explored over the years.  Much of the difficulty is determining where they should be located, and the Historic District will come in handy for this project.

Green Space/Pocket Park for community use at end of Palafox or Arnold

A group of neighbors got together recently to request a green space at the end of Palafox.  Dekalb County is working on transferring title from the DOT to Parks department unless annexation derails this endeavor.  The end of Arnold greenspace is currently a component of the most recent MARTA Clifton Light Rail expansion.  We can rally around either of these opportunities.

Speed Radar signs installable on Woodland Hills or Shepherds

Several other neighborhood associations have already purchased their own movable radar signs and obtained permits to install them in the right of way.  Some of the variables affecting cost are Electric vs. Solar charging, battery life, and internet connectivity.

Woodland Hills Drive Speed Hump Dekalb DOT Petition

This will be an easy project to complete as only signatures of the property owners for Woodland Hills facing residents is required.  It's apparent local leaders do know who to hire to petition our neighborhood to identify and obtain necessary signatures, so we should partner with them and try this one again.

Paid Safety Patrol

This is more of an annual service rather than a project.  Both our Brookhaven and Atlanta neighbors  have a private patrol program, but our neighborhood has not found it necessary yet.  We would need annual contributions of $150+ from a large number of residents and other business sponsors to fund it.
